The investment forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda to strengthen tertiary healthcare delivery and position Ghanaian universities as globally competitive centres of excellence.

In a statement issued in Accra, GETFund said the intervention reflects government’s commitment to integrating academic training, research, and practical healthcare delivery within key public universities.

The proposed KNUST Teaching Hospital is expected to enhance the university’s capacity to train medical professionals while expanding access to specialised healthcare services.

“When completed and fully equipped, the KNUST Teaching Hospital will serve as a critical hub for clinical training, advanced medical research, and specialised healthcare services,” the statement noted.

The facility will provide hands-on training opportunities for medical students and health professionals, support innovation in key medical fields, and improve access to quality healthcare in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

He also praised the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, for her contribution towards the realisation of the project.

Stakeholders across the education and health sectors have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and human resource capacity.
