GTEC had earlier published approved fees for the University of Ghana, explaining that the move was intended to promote transparency and address concerns surrounding the institution’s fee structure. However, in a letter dated Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and addressed to the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Amfo stated that some of the figures released by the Commission do not reflect agreements reached at a consultative meeting held on January 8, 2026, at the Ministry of Education.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Education, brought together representatives of GTEC, the Chair of the University Council, university management, and student leaders. According to the Vice-Chancellor, it was agreed at the meeting that the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council Development Levy would be set at GH¢200, contrary to the amount announced by GTEC.
She further clarified that the Telecel data bundle was agreed at GH¢312 and was clearly classified as an optional service, following a student-led survey that supported the enhanced data package. Professor Amfo also noted that there was no discussion or decision at the meeting regarding the discontinuation of the university’s 75th Anniversary Levy.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the levy is not a new charge but a contribution toward a legacy project, specifically a Student Experience Centre intended to support a range of student services.
